Adsense revenue from December 9th 2007 to January 21st, 2008

This is a little update on how things have been for me with Google Adsense from starting this and my other blog about how to make money.

During the 42 days that my blogs have generated visits and pageviews the 2 blogs have a combind pageviews of 399. From these 399 pageviews I had 13 clicks which have made me a total of 4 dollars and 19 cents.

This $4.19 and 13 clicks make up 32 cents per click on average.with my Google Adsense.

The CTR (click-through rate) is 3.26%. This means that for every 100 times that a page on my blogs was viewed there were 3.26 clicks on the ads. The higher the rate the better but I am actually quite satisfied with it because as you can see the ads are placed quite modestly - one unit on the bottom of the page and 1 unit the right.

The eCPM (effective CPM, effective cost per 1000 ad impressions) of my blogs are 10.5 dollars. This means that for every thousand ad impressions I make on average 10 dollars and 50 cents.
The numbers I currently have are in no way a 100% accurate in order to draw any conclusions because of the small number of pageviews.

Because of the lack of better stats I am using these numbers to set some pageview goals.

Since the combined eCPM is 10,5 it means that in order  to generate 100$ I would need about 10 000 pageviews to make 100 dollars (or 9524 pageviews to be exact). This means about 317 pageviews a day.  Since the average user visits 1.82 pages with each visit that means that I would need about 175 visitors a day for both of my blogs combined.

NB! At this moment I have no way of knowing how much money the How to make money with adsense or the Psychology of Money blog have generated on their own. This is because on default Google doesn’t let you know from where the clicks originate from.

Goal for April - 175 visitors/month

Getting more information about your site from Google

Google has something called Google Webmaster Tools which lets you define the websites that belong to you and after successful verification gives you tons of information what Google’s search engine knows about your site.

Google Webmaster Tools also give you a view how Googlebot (the program that crawls through your webpage and indexes everything it sees) sees your site - for example the 10 most significant words on How to make money with adsense are:

    5. blog

Why do I repeat the term “How to make money with adsense” in every post?

Have you ever wondered why do I repeat the name of my blog How to make money with adsense in every post that I  have made?

Well, its simple really - since it is one of the most important keywords that I wish to promote it is essential that what I write about contains the phrase How to make money with adsense since this is the only way for Google and other search engines to understand that what you are writing is in fact what you want the users to find when they search for the terms you have previously set for you number 1 keyword.

Think about what are the phrases that you think your potential users are going to search for in order to end up with your product or service - and then start using these keywords in your site.

Keywords I start to work on in order to eventually make money with adsense

Here is a list of keywords I intend to start promoting in “How to make money with adsense” blog. The reason is that hopefully after searching for one of these keywords the person doing the search is presented with my web page in the search results page.

    The keywords are:

how to make money with google
how to make money with adsense
how to make money with google adsense
how to make mony with a website
    Google adsense
How to make money with a blog
    adsense dollars
    making money with adsense

At this moment I have no idea where I stand in Google’s search results with these keywords - probably somewhere in the very last pages.

How has the “how to make money with adsense” blog done with only 2 posts…

Since I started the “How to make money with adsense” blog in December 7th 2007 - I only made 2 posts and left the site to live its own life without any help from me.

Here is what I have learned with the first month.

Total visits: 43 of whom 23 are unique visitors. This means that some of these 23 people have visited the “How to make money with adsense” blog more than once - this is good news for me. It shows that although the blog has been really inactive there is some potential that if I start to work with it then it will quickly gather momentum and by the end of the year I should have a blog about how to make money with google adsense that has a fair amount of traffic and visitors.

Pageviews: 52. This shows that each visitor to my site read the article he first saw and then left the site. Only some people chose to click on other links on my How to make money with google adsense blog.

This shows number should eventually be a lot better and I am no satisfied with it but at this point it is also normal - the blog only had 2 posts and there aren’t a lot of other pages that a visitor can read. I also plan to change the front page of How to make money with google adsense so that when somebody lands on the first page then he(or she) can only read a part of the blog post - in order to see the full post you would have to click on a link.

Average time on site: 1 minute 8 seconds. This seems like a rather short time but I am actually quite satisfied with it! I made a small test and used a stopwatch to see how long it takes for me to read each one of my 2 articles with normal speed - the average was 52 seconds - so it seems that pretty much everybody read through the article he came to read.

Where did the visitors come from?

37% came by directly typing in the domain name, 35% came by clicking on a link and 28% came through search engines.

Since I had told about the site to only a couple of my friends then I presume that most of the 37% of people who came to the “How to make money with adsense” blog is made up y myself (hehe thats right) and some of my friends and people who got the domain address from somewhere else and copy-paste’d it on their browser. Unfortunately I have no way of making sure how many times have the visits from myself been taken into account.

The 35% of people who clicked on a link on somebodys website came from 3 sites in total. Most of them (8 visitors) came from my blog that talks about the psychology of money - mmmoney.org. Some (6 visitors) also came from blogger.com - where I had left a comment and inserted my web page address as mmmoney.net. I also got 1 visit from problogger.com (a site that teaches about blogging) because I left a comment on one of their stories.
Overall leaving specific comments on different high profile blogs that are on topic seems to be like a good way of building traffic but this is not something I intend to do with the how to make money with adsense blog.

28% of people (12 visitors) who came to this blog searched for something in Google. The 12 things (or keywords) they searched for were:

1500 hits per day adsense revenues
    about adsence
    adsense blog dollars
    adsense dollar a day
    adsense hits per month
    google adsence
how to make money with 1,000 dollars
how to make money with adsense
    making money with adsence
    mmmoney
    setting revenue goals
    www.mmmonkey.net

All of these keywords are pretty much satisfactory to me - with the only exception being mmmonkey.net. Apart from the similarity of the domain I have no idea why Google thinks that searching for mmmonkey should redirect someone to my site. My guess is that Google has some kind of typing mixup code in their search engine that automatically checks for similar keywords (if it can’t find anything for the keyword that Google users searched for).

Since being on the first page of Google’s search results pretty much guarantees you a lot of visitors (and therefore money) it is my top priority to keep climbing up in Google’s search results.

    Setting Goals

Since I am a goal oriented person I feel that in order to be able to say if the “How to make money with adsense?” blog is a success I must set some goals.

Here are some of my goals for the following year:

    1) 1 year goal – adsense ad revenue of at least 1500 dollars per month (January 2009)

    2) 6 month goal - Google adsence ad revenue of 300 dollars per month (June)

    3) 1 dollar per day – 1 dollar per day on average during any given month – 4 months from starting (April)

    4) Visitors – 1000 hits per day – 4 months (April)

Because of my lack of knowledge in online marketing and advertising I don’t have any idea if achieving those goals in the given time frame is even remotely achievable but that’s the good part in goal setting – you can always set new goals or modify your old ones.

If my goals are too easy or too difficult to achieve I will set new and more adequate goals that will take into account new information that I don’t know at the moment, but there is no chance that I will discontinue my experiment before January 2009.

How to make money with google adsense?

This is a blog about how to make money with Google Adsense. As of this moment the author of this blog (how to make money with Google Adsense) has never had any experience with Google Adsense or any other advertising programs. So far my only experience with ads has been occasionally clicking them! :)

The purpose of this blog is simple – to experiment with Google Adsense and investigate about the most efficient ways how to make money with a blog. Since the how to make money with Adsense blog is a lot about experimenting I will keep a thorough account of every change I make and will also comment on why I did it. I will also try to keep track if the changes were positive to my rank in Google (or other search engines) and how do they help me to get more traffic to my website and help me to make more money out of this blog.

For myself there are 3 reasons why I made this blog:

    1) It enables me to learn about internet marketing and use the things that I learn from How to Make Money with Adsense in my other ventures.

    2) It is a chance to eventually make some money (if all goes as planned)

    3) Everything I learn here I will use to benefit my other site (www.mmmoney.org) that talks about money and the sometimes difficult to explain ways that it works.
